Welcome to the Launde Deanery Minster Community Website

'We believe that the Launde Minster Community is a worshipping community,
called to be those who build the ‘Kingdom of God’ and who equip one another for following Jesus for the whole of life.’

Dear Friends,

It is not often that we have the opportunity to gather as one community from across the minister for worship, on the fifth Sundays of the month, or indeed when a minister leaves or joins you.  However, we are due to gather this Sunday, 31st August, at 11 am at St Peter's Church in Gaulby, and I am really looking forward to being with you. I hope you will join me and others as we gather to worship together, joined also by our online congregation.

In Jesus’ society, meals were a very powerful means of communicating, identifying who was who and how important they were in the community. Meals and where people sat affirmed and gave legitimacy to a person's role and status in their community. For this reason, most meals were attended by people of the same social rank. Typically, too, if a person were invited to a meal, they would be expected to reciprocate the invitation! Sometimes people refused invitations as they felt they were unable to offer the same level of hospitality as their potential host. Jesus turns this concept upside down, and rather than inviting those who are perceived as equals in society. He suggests that those who should be invited to dine should specifically be those who can't reciprocate, those at the bottom of the social pile.

Our gathering on Sunday is not just an opportunity for us to break bread together, but also to invite others to share in that bread too, no matter what their social status or background is. I invite you to come, and I invite you to bring someone with you as we share hospitality as guests and hosts. Come and take a seat with us.

Every Blessing

Crystal
